چکیده

We investigate the effects of the magnetic dipole-dipole coupling and the electromagnetic radiation on the frequency evolution of gravitational waves from inspiralling binary neutron stars with magnetic dipole moments. This study is motivated by the discovery of the superstrongly magnetized neutron stars, i.e., magnetar. We derive the contributions of the magnetic fields to the accumulated cycles in gravitational waves as Nmag ∼ 6 × 10(H/10G), where H denotes the strength of the polar magnetic fields of each neutron star in the binary system. It is found that the effects of the magnetic fields will be negligible for the detection and the parameter estimation of gravitational waves, if the upper limit for magnetic fields of neutron stars are less than ∼ 10G, which is the maximum magnetic field observed in the soft gamma repeaters and the anomalous X-ray pulsars up to date. We also discuss the implications of electromagnetic radiation from the inspiralling binary neutron stars for the precursory X-ray emission prior to the gamma ray burst observed by the Ginga satellite. Modelling Gravitational Waves from Inspiralling Compact Binaries

Gravitational waves from inspiralling compact binaries can be reliably extracted from a noisy detector output only if the template used in the detection is a faithful representation of the true signal. In this article we suggest a new approach to constructing faithful signal models.

Gravitational Radiation from Post-Newtonian Sources and Inspiralling Compact Binaries

The article reviews the current status of a theoretical approach to the problem of the emission of gravitational waves by isolated systems in the context of general relativity. Part A of the article deals with general post-Newtonian sources. The exterior field of the source is investigated by means of a combination of analytic post-Minkowskian and multipolar approximations. The physical observa...

M ar 1 99 6 Energy losses by gravitational radiation in inspiralling compact binaries to five halves post - Newtonian order

This paper derives the total power or energy loss rate generated in the form of gravitational waves by an inspiralling compact binary system to the five halves post-Newtonian (2.5PN) approximation of general relativity. Extending a recently developed gravitational-wave generation formalism valid for arbitrary (slowly-moving) systems, we compute the mass multipole moments of the system and the r...

A template bank to search for gravitational waves from inspiralling compact binaries

Matched filtering is used to search for gravitational waves emitted by inspiralling compact binaries in data from ground-based interferometers. One of the key aspects of the detection process is the deployment of a set of templates, also called a template bank, to cover the astrophysically interesting region of the parameter space. In a companion paper, we described the template bank algorithm ...

Post-Newtonian corrections to the gravitational-wave memory for quasicircular, inspiralling compact binaries

The Christodoulou memory is a nonlinear contribution to the gravitational-wave field that is sourced by the gravitational-wave stress-energy tensor. For quasicircular, inspiralling binaries, the Christodoulou memory produces a growing, nonoscillatory change in the gravitational-wave ‘‘plus’’ polarization, resulting in the permanent displacement of a pair of freely-falling test masses after the ...
